Two-Week Stock Trading Challenge: Day 4 Chart Review, $URRE $APOP $TBIO $BVXV

Welcome to the fourth day’s review of our two-week trading challenge, where our lead trader’s aim is to double his large account. Our lead trader’s record for January 12 was 4 wins, 2 losses, and 2 holds.

Today’s focus shifted back to biopharma stocks, although markets have continued to be relatively flat as the week has progressed.The potential for intraday scalps was not as promising as Monday. No recap video was recorded for this day.

The first play of the morning was exiting long positions from the previous day in $URRE. This began at 9:34 AM, with half of the 9000 shares being scaled out for 3.82. Finally, all remaining shares were scaled out at 9:45 AM for 3.90.

There was one morning momentum play at 9:40 AM in $APOP, which leveraged a pop in a one minute time-frame. Our lead trader was long at 9:40 AM for 1000 shares at 5.54, and exited at 9:41 AM for 5.86. This was the second win of the day.

There was a small loss at 10:15 AM, going long in $TBIO for 5000 shares at 0.78. Exit was at 10:18 AM, for 0.73.

The next two wins were intraday scalps in $BVXV after 11:00 AM. The first trade was a long position entered at 11:15 AM, for 2000 shares at 5.02. These shares were sold off at 11:21 AM for 5.80. The second scalp was entered at 11:33 AM, going long for 6000 shares at 6.48. This position was exited at 11:38 AM, with all shares sold for 7.17.

The final loss of the day was in $TBIO near end-of-day. The lead trader entered a long position at 3:06 PM, 5000 shares at 1.217, and exited at 3:30 PM at 1.182 (all shares).

Two-Week Stock Trading Challenge: Day 2 Chart Review and Recap Video, $GNVC $ETRM $SGNL $XGTI $UWT

Welcome to the second day’s review of our two-week trading challenge, where our lead trader’s aim is to double his large account. My name’s Sartaj, a software engineer at Compound Trading. Following our original format, the first part of this series is a chart review. Our lead trader’s record for January 10 was 6 wins, 2 small losses, and 1 hold from a previous swing trade.

Overall, the general sentiment of the market has been relatively flat pending Donald Trump’s inauguration. Much of the chatter since Monday has indeed been about medical-related fields, and $ETRM showed itself to be a scalper’s paradise today. More on this later.

Hence, the focus was largely on biopharma stocks, with one hold in oil based on the results of our oil algorithm.

The first play was in $GNVC, which leveraged morning momentum one minute after the opening bell. Entry was at 9:31 am going long at 8.23, 1000 shares. Exit was one minute later. The original plan was to hold in the 8.70 area after the initial momo pike, but there was a pull back after price moved to 10. Price action came off a bit faster than it should have after the initial spike, in our lead trader’s estimation. This validated his concern with respect to pulling out very early.

This example also highlights the importance of seeing indicators line up. While the stochastic oscillator and Osmond
metrics were lining up well, there were not enough checkmarks to justify a hold.

Moving on, we see that $ETRM continued to be a scalper’s paradise, following Monday’s trends. We made one play at 10:22 am, with entry at 19.04, and exit 4 minutes later out 3000 shares at 19.59. As we can see, an extended hold until lunch time may have worked out in retrospect, but our lead trader worked off his plan and exited before the downdraft between 10:30 am and 10:40 am.

 


The next stock we looked at was $SGNL. This was technically interesting, as the volume has been low here for quite some time. Most of our wins were came from this stock, leveraging gap-ups. The orange arrows highlights a halt, which we had pinned down right to the minute. Note that there pops in price nearly every time a halt came in.


The first loss of the day came near end-of-day in $BIOC. While the entry was sound, leveraging a reversal at 2:42, there was not enough price action during the pop at 3:28.


Our second loss came from $XGTI, a technology company. Similar to the previous loss, there was an expectation of a pivot where the exit point was, building price action at a previous resistance level. However, after the reversal at 3:09 pm, the downdraft continued. A better play may have been to exit right before the reversal, although the price action here was quite dramatic.

Finally, our lead trader entered one hold. Further to these momentum and scalping plays, our flagship algorithm, EPIC, had the following observations: On January 9, price fell out of its lower resistance, which we represent as a “lower width” in terms of our algorithmic charting. It was posited around a 50% probability that price would reach 53.16.

Using $UWT as a primary trading instrument against $USOIL (where we represent our algorithm), our lead trader went long at 24.10, 1000 shares. There was slight lift over the support width, with evidence of a price action moving towards one of the primary algo targets in the afternoon.

Oil output being cut, a couple of trade and environmental agreements in the works. General sentiment is to wait until the US presidential inauguration. Not really anything impressive in terms of price actions, but algo targets are still on mark pending re-calculations.

Given these geo-indicators, our lead trader entered a hold.

$REXX Stock Trading Results Daytrading in Chat Room

$PULM, $REXX, $BCEI, $TVIX – I traded that group of four today and had a red day (first one in many days so it had to happen eventually). Small red day however, likely around 600.00 or so in red so that’s a win imo.

Market had a down day and I should know to be more careful in a red market day, however, I do like to stay in the chop on a small scale to keep me in the heartbeat – so small losses on days like today and large wins on green days I can live with.

I really have no excuse in missing the Gold trade lately considering our algo nailed the bottom and turn to the penny many weeks in advance – but I am waiting for inauguration. I’m looking for the meat of a major move in our algo stocks – the momo stocks and intra-day trading is simply sniping to stay in heatbeat and make some green at same time.

I should also note I’m very pumped about our swing trades this year – been hitting those calls like crazy and good to be back in to longer holds after two years sitting out.

$GLBS, $NAKD, $DRYS, $PHMD – Very quiet for me. $GLBS was the big mover and I just didn’t catch it. Caught momo $NAKD for moderate scalp. Chewed around edges of $DRYS and $PHMD. Dumped a couple small starter bags from earlier in week I didn’t want to hold over long weekend. All in all a good week up 47% on account so for the first of two weeks of the challenge I can’t complain. Looking forward to next 2 weeks in markets – Brexit and Trump theme.

Wasn’t as good as other days this week but still profitable and worth it. Choppy. Overtraded. Was hoping to increase my sizing as week went on but I’ve had to decrease sizing as week progresses. So I did manage two trades in $ETRM Friday. I didn’t alert them (not even in room on text) but I did on voice. Mathew is away for his wedding this week and Sartaj wasn’t in room assisting with moderating so it can be tough to alert momo plays. They’re both in room with me next week.

Anyway, so my two trades were; $ETRM in 7.54 and out at 7.69 1000 shares and $ETRM long 6.48 and add at 7.276 1000 shares each with an exit at 8.42 of 2000 share. So they were decent scalps. Not the best but a decent day nonetheless.

I was ready with the ranges to scalp $UGAZ $DGAZ $NUGT $DUST $USLV $DSLV $UWT $DWT $JNUG $JDST – yes had them all ready because we have algos for them and I didn’t trade them. The biggest one I missed was junior miner’s – it’s range was 20% intraday I think – sad… but I won’t be missing those going forward – Sartaj will be in room starting Monday calling algo ranges so that if I’m preoccupied (like I was Friday) with a momo trade the others won’t slip me by.

Once again the members are killing it in the room – has been a killing field since 2017 started.

Also, the trading margins for the areas our algorithms are based have widened recently so I’m looking for an excellent two to three weeks around the inauguration. So my focus will be trying to double my accounts over the next two to three weeks. I published the challenge to my Twitter feed. After the inauguration we will consolidate all the trades in to one highlight video and publish it to our You Tube channel. Hopefully I hit the target.

I need to exit $DUST and entered it and held because I was convinced USD/JPY would (at minimum) do a major spike up to end the rally – but not so lucky (yet). $CBMX and $JUNO are holds in to spring if necessary – that was the worst case plan anyway.

We are looking to volatility, bonds, metals and possibly bio at this point short / mid term – but the market will let us know.

Overview Perspective & Review of Chat Room, Algo Calls, Trades and Alerts:

I did get a morning momo trade on $ETRM that worked well. It happened so fast there was no way to get alerts out (SMS / email) other than alerts in room (and this will happen with trades that are fast morning momos) and I also had a follow-up trade in $BCEI that I think was off by a couple cents. So one nice win one tiny loss today. In fact, I was so busy during that $ETRM trade I couldn’t even get it typed in the chat room but I alerted it on audio of course and we got it on video at least.

The other gainers $PRAN, $HEAR, $GNVC, $PIRS, $HALO I missed but the members are killing anything that moves since 2017 started. Great team there – just one after another. We’ve seen very few losses and any we have seen have been tiny like my $BCEI trade today.

Also, the trading margins for the areas our algorithms are based have widened recently so I’m looking for an excellent two to three weeks around the inauguration. So my focus will be trying to double my accounts over the next two to three weeks. I published the challenge to my Twitter feed. After the inauguration we will consolidate all the trades in to one highlight video and publish it to our You Tube channel. Hopefully I hit the target.

Per yesterday (and days prior):

I need to exit $DUST and entered it and held because I was convinced USD/JPY would (at minimum) do a major spike up to end the rally – but not so lucky (yet). $CBMX and $JUNO are holds in to spring if necessary – that was the worst case plan anyway.

We are looking to volatility, bonds, metals and possibly bio at this point short / mid term – but the market will let us know.

The market has a tonne of inflection points now, Silver Gold and Miner’s woke up some today so things should get interesting soon with our algos that you can find here:

We are currently processing the reset calls for all algos for Q1 2017 over Christmas season because the have all now completed their calls from Q3 and Q3 2016 with 90% or better accuracy. Busy day in the room. Mathew is away until next week for his wedding but we managed. Market looks good so far in 2017. The team banked hard especially on the $BCEI trade. But there were many. The $BCEI trade we were right on top of – the second it went on halt – we nailed the buy near the bottom – scaled out near the top and exited the top almost perfect. The only thing that could have went better was scaling in harder. But a great win along with all the others. I had a small loss trade today to in $EVOK.

I need to exit $DUST and entered it and held because I was convinced USD/JPY would (at minimum) do a major spike up to end the rally – but not so lucky (yet). $CBMX and $JUNO are holds in to spring if necessary – that was the worst case plan anyway.

We are looking to volatility, bonds, metals and possibly bio at this point short / mid term – but the market will let us know.

The market has a tonne of inflection points now, Silver Gold and Miner’s woke up some today so things should get interesting soon with our algos that you can find here:

$MRNS was one momo play I had with small gain and $SSH with a wash. Later in day I had four $UVXY snipes that worked near perfect at 3000 shares each and 10 – 12 cents sniped on each.

Mathew and the team had a number of successful long and short trades – impressive group in this room. Talent base for any budding trader to learn from. I’m learning from them.

We are currently processing the reset calls for all algos for Q1 2017 over Christmas season because the have all now completed their calls from Q3 and Q3 2016 with 90% or better accuracy. All calls fully documented. 2017 Charting to be released this weekend!

09:15 am Mathew Waterfall : While American investors and traders were sleeping, the combination of a rush of computer-generated orders and low liquidity prompted a 1.6 percent spike in the euro.Coinciding with the start of the Asian trading day, the euro was trading just below $1.05 but quickly soared as high as $1.0653 , which forced dealers to cover positions at losses.According to Bloomberg , the euro wasn’t the only major currency to exhibit a sudden move. The Swiss frank similarly spiked higher by 1.6 percent against the dollar and the Japanese yen gained 0.4 percent at the same time.Within an hour the currencies mostly pared their gains. The euro was higher by around 0.5 percent ahead of Friday’s U.S. stock market open.
